I'm a self-taught artist, primarily exploring the Texas landscape in oils.
I find a deep connection to the subject when I'm painting. Throughout the evolution of a painting, I quietly observe and study, learning every nook and cranny of a composition. Through this visual exploration, I translate its form, features, hues, and values into my own stylized vision. This process creates an intimacy between myself and the subject. It's like getting to know someone and they've become an old friend by the last brush stroke.
I enjoy straddling the line between representational and abstraction. At times my work may sway one way or another, and I let the subject guide that process. I believe a looser style allows viewers to better connect with the subject. They become part of the story, as their mind fills in the visual gaps.
My current stylistic approach focuses on simple compositions with large forms, visual texture, mark-making variety, and varied edge work.
